So we all want beautiful, healthy, young looking, wrinkle free skin. But what lengths would you go to to achieve that?
I’ve thought about Botox injections, face lifts and other procedures, and seen women who look amazing after having these treatments, but I’m just plain scared. Botox injections only last a number of months and I know it’s not going to happen, but I imagine myself going to bed looking smooth skinned and radiant and waking up the next morning finding my face has collapsed and looking like the witch from Hansel and Gretel. It’s the same with face lifts ….. some women look amazing and then you see someone who has just had too many or taken it too far and they resemble one of the puppets from Thunderbirds. So at least for me, the only alternative is finding the right lotions and potions …………..
I don’t want to sound cheesy but as soon as I started using the Paula’s Choice range of skin care products my skin felt good. I remember thinking “Mmmmm…. this feels nice”, which I’d never experienced with skin care products before. When I’d used other creams they would either make my skin sting, become red, leave a greasy layer on my skin which just felt uncomfortable or, at best, would just be OK. Which is probably why I’d ended up trying so many different brands.
Paula Begoun is the founder of Paula’s Choice and the brand is slightly different to most others as you can only purchase it online. The Paula’s Choice website is filled with information about all of her products with each product having a dedicated page which describes the product and what types of skin it is suitable for, application tips, reviews from previous users and there is also a very short video on most of the products which explains what the product contains, why, and illustrates how to use it correctly. You can also contact the customer service representatives with any questions.
At this point I will add one of my only gripes with Paula’s Choice …….. no mature women either on photo or video to illustrate and advertise their Anti-Aging/Wrinkles products! Sigh……
OK – so there you are, you’ve had a look and think you know which particular products you’d like to try but even after all that information how can you be sure they’re the right products for you? They sell trial sizes and also sample sets of the complete ranges (the sample sets costing £2.70 at the time I wrote this post).
So here is a review of the 5 “core” Paula’s Choice products that I use. (I have added the links to the Paula’s Choice website solely so that you can see what the products contain and what they target. They are not there as any form of advertising).
Paula’s Choice Resist Super Antioxidant Concentrate Serum
This is one of the first products I use in my skin care routine every morning. This serum is clear and has a greasy consistency but it is absorbed very quickly and doesn’t leave a greasy residue. I apply this serum, brush my teeth and by that time the serum is absorbed into my skin. You only need a very small amount.
Paula’s Choice Resist Super-Light Daily Wrinkle Defense with SPF 30
One of my favourite Paula’s Choice products and the second step in my daily skin care regime. I apply this moisturiser to my face and neck every morning after the Super Antioxidant Concentrate Serum. I love it because it’s a lovely light sunscreen which absorbs into my skin really quickly. The tint might look a very light colour but it blends in to my skin beautifully and the tint evens the tone of my skin out and makes me look …… much better!
Paula’s Choice Resist Intensive Wrinkle-Repair Retinol Serum
This Retinol Serum is the first step in my night time routine on about 4 nights a week. Again, it’s clear and does have a greasy consistency (more so than the Super Antioxidant Concentrate Serum) but again, after cleansing and toning, I put this serum on to my face and neck and leave it for a few minutes (you only need a small amount) by which time it’s absorbed into my skin.
Paula’s Choice Barrier Repair Moisturizer
And so, the final step before going to bed and drifting off to sleep, is applying this moisturiser. It’s a very creamy feeling, light, creamy coloured moisturizer which I apply to my face and neck and is absorbed very quickly. Skin glowing and feeling great, it’s off to bed!
Paula’s Choice Clinical 1% Retinol Treatment
On 2 or 3 evenings a week I apply this 1% Retinol Treatment to my face and neck (avoiding the eye area) instead of using the Intensive Wrinkle-Repair Retinol Serum and Resist Barrier Repair Moisturizer. It has a very light, creamy texture and absorbs very quickly into my skin. Sometimes I have experienced a very slight tingling which disappears very quickly but so far, otherwise, I haven’t had any adverse reactions to this 1% Retinol treatment which I have had with some other retinol containing face creams. If you choose to, you can apply a moisturiser over this 1% Retinol treatment.
And after using this combination of products on my face for some time now, my skin definitely feels the best it has ever felt. No redness or adverse reactions – just even-toned, soft and smooth skin. But the question I’m sure you’re all asking …… have these serums and creams had any effect on my fine lines and wrinkles? Well they certainly seem less pronounced and noticeable and so I would say yes.
I did promise before and after photos of myself using some of the products I will be reviewing and I promise to be true to my word. I will post a short update in a months time with photos taken of me today and then in a months time and we can then see if there are any changes in the texture and appearance of my skin.
Price wise, although not as cheap as some high street brands, I have found the products to last a long time as a little goes a long way and so I don’t find myself having to re-stock as often.
Most people will have a preferred brand of skin care that suits their skin and makes them feel good and for me that is definitely Paula’s Choice. And apart from me feeling as if it’s the best range for my skin, after about a month of using Paula’s Choice my son walked past me one morning and said “Your skin looks nice”! Now he may have been buttering me up because he wanted something, but I’m hoping that it’s because my skin actually does look nice!
(This review is based solely on my own personal experience and opinions and I have not had any contact, directly or in-directly, with any Paula’s Choice staff or any other individual).
