Hi there Flawsomes!
As far as lip colour goes, I’m a real creature of habit. I can’t believe it, but when I was planning this post I realised that I’ve been using the same make and lipstick colours for over 20 years……at least!
I’ve tried different makes and colours but they’ve just never been as good as my all time favourite Rimmel lipsticks.
I recently did the Boots No 7 Match Made Service and came out with 2 lipsticks and a lip liner…….which were shortly tossed to the bottom of my lipstick drawer and never see the light of day. The colours just aren’t as nice and they definitely don’t have the staying power of my Rimmel lipsticks.
When I know I’m at home for the day, a quick coat of KIKO Kiss Balm gives a hint of colour and really keep your lips feeling lovely and soft. Before bed I love good old Vaseline Aloe Vera Lip Therapy.
(KIKO Kiss Balm – £5.90 and Vaseline Aloe Vera Lip Therapy – £1.95 at time of writing post).
But when I go out ……… now that’s a whole different ball game. I certainly don’t want to go out looking like my great aunt or as if I’ve just had my lips in the jam jar, so I use several products on my lips and I have lip colour all day without having to re-apply.
It may seem a lot of layers and time consuming, but interspersed whilst putting on my other bits of make up, it really doesn’t take long at all and especially if you’re going out at night, no matter how many cocktails you may have, your lips will always have colour and your lips will stay looking luscious all evening.
STEP 1 – LIP LINER
A quick outline of lip liner stops any potential lipstick bleed and also gives my lips stronger definition. I’m currently using a Max Factor lip liner which is soft enough to go on nicely and stay on. I always use a lip liner that matches my colour of lip stick as I’m not a fan of a different colour lip liner with a different colour lipstick, but that’s just my personal preference.
(Max Factor Colour Elixir Lip Liner – £4.99 at time of writing post)
STEP 2 – LIP STAIN
Oh blimey……. you can see from the photograph that when I said I’m a creature of habit I really am with lip stains! My all time favourite lip stains are Maybelline Super Stay 24 Color and Max Factor Lipfinity. I’ve been using them for years as a base colour before I apply my lipstick and although they give you a lovely strong lip colour which stays on brilliantly all day, the colours never over power the lip stick colour you’re putting on top. I have tried some other well known brands of lip stain but the colours are just too strong. Of course, once dry, you can just put a coat of the lip sheen they come with and off you go. Both makes look lovely and stay on brilliantly.
(Maybelline Super Stay 24 Colour – £8.99 at time of writing post and Max Factor Lipfinity – £10.99 at time of writing post, but don’t forget to look out for the special offers Maybelline and Max Factor often have).
STEP 3 – LIP STICK
There is no contest …….. for me it’s always been, and always will be, Rimmel Drop of Sherry and Rimmel Amethyst Shimmer! I can’t remember when I actually started wearing these lipsticks but all the colours in this Rimmel Range are lovely and stay on well too but these are the 2 colours I always wear.
Thank you Rimmel for a life time of lovely looking lips!
(Rimmel London Lasting Finish Lip Stick – £4.99 at time of writing post but Rimmel is also another make that often have special offers.)
STEP 4 – LIP GLOSS
And finally I finish with lip gloss. If it’s daytime rushing around, I coat with a gloss that is barely visible over my lip colour but gives a faint shimmer but if it’s for a night out …… hello shimmery, glossy lips!
I use L’Oreal Paris Infallible Mega Gloss and L’Oreal Paris Glamshine Reflexion for a full, night out glamorous shine.
I’ve also just discovered No. 7 High Shine Lip Gloss which gives a lovely hint of colour and shine and stays on really well.
(L’Oreal Paris Infallible Mega Gloss – £6.99, L’Oreal Paris Glamshine Reflexion – £6.99 & Boots No7 High Shine Lip Gloss £9.00 at time of writing post but again, keep an eye out for special offers).
Just as I was putting this post together, I saw that L’Oreal Paris have brought out a new range of lipsticks called Color Riche Gold Obsession and bought one in Rouge Gold. A great lipstick ……. lovely colour and stays on well. Also Boots No7 Stay Perfect Lip Lacquer, a lip stain in great colours which stays on for hours. I’ll definitely be buying more of these.
So there you have it, my guide to gorgeous, alluring lips!
P.S. When I told my girlfriends I was doing this post on lipsticks they delved deep in to their handbags …… and pulled out Rimmel lipsticks. So it’s not just me who loves them!
